HOW TO GROW THE BEST PANSIES
Pansies are not hard to grow. Here are a few hints on how to get the best out of your display.
Pansies love cool winter weather and will go on blooming until the heat of summer. Pansies can be available all year round, but for best results plant in the autumn for colour right through the winter/spring months.
Before you start to plant look at the soil conditions first. Pansies like rich well drained soil. When your soil is ready for
planting it should be loose and easy to work with.
You are now ready to purchase your pansies. Decide on a colour
theme or design for the space you are going to use. Pansies come
in a vast range of colours and flower sizes.
Pansies are available in potted colour or punnets. Remember
to look for the bright lime green pots and punnets at your local garden centre.
Do not plant your pansies too deep. Always ensure the
stem of the plant is out of the ground to prevent rotting. Water in well after planting. Do not fertilise at this time. Always wait a week to allow the roots to settle in and heal from planting.
Pansies respond to being picked. Pick them with the stem only
most of the time. Sometime go further in and cut the bigger
stem that has both leaves and a flower. This will make the
plant branch out more and keep it from getting leggy giving
you a better show over a longer period.
Cut pansies look great in small vases or floating in water
dishes inside your house.
There is nothing more spectacular than a mass display of
pansies in the garden adding impact, colour and enjoyment when many other plants are dormant.
